The Other Side/Pudding Ham

Year/2020

There are two sides to every story. For each issues, this magazine focuses on things you often see in real life, but showing them in ways you've never seen before.
The first issue focused on "pudding ham" which is a specific type of ham made with water. It’s actually a common way to produce ham but many people have no idea how such ham is made. I realized how we often see ham in commercials or on packages showing the exact opposite of the process. I decided to show two opposite point of views with my own interpretation.

Series01 : Sushi in the ocean

There are some children who believe fish in the ocean have the same shape as the one on top of sushi. Then again, maybe for people who haven’t seen a pig before, the shape of a pig is similar to the perfect circle of a pink ham. This series is from the point of view of people who have no idea about how ham is made and what it is made of.

Series02 : Water inside the meat

Among people in the meat industry, certain types of ham which is injected with water during the making process is called “pudding ham”. There are also certain specific processes of food coloring, making into paste and heat molding. This series is from the point of view of people who are familiar with the process of making ham.

Series03 : So what is ham?

What’s the definition of ham? The word “ham” can mean so many different type of processed meat products. So what are we actually putting into our body when we eat ham? Here are samples of different types of pork-based products with their list of ingredients.
